Tues 1/8/2019

January 8th, 2019

Do you remember that I made a resolution to write every Sunday night? Note above, it is now Tuesday–somehow I seem to have zipped from Sat to Tues. It seems after holidays, the days are hard to separate–especially when you have no appointed tasks. Can’t let that continue when I have a weekly Sun blog commitment. How many trust that I will be back next Sun evening?
Wish I could tell you I am starting a new novel on next generation of Myra’s family. I am happy to say the books are still selling in some venues. Royalty checks do not add much to my luxurious life style but do tell me that Myra & family still have friends.
Thanks for reading. Shirley

Sunday night 12/30/18

December 31st, 2018

I have challenged myself to set Sun night as my time for blog—-unless of course there should be breaking news (not much chance of that). Sunday is my favorite day. I love to go to my church and come home peaceful and joyful. The afternoon is open to whatever pleasure I choose. This afternoon was more than pleasure. It was fantastic. I saw movie, The Return of Mary Poppins. I laughed, cried good tears and loved the reunion with Mary. All characters were perfect, and surprises of seeing short scenes from characters from the original. (No Julie Andrews, but a bank president who looked very much like Bert, the chimneysweep. If that is nostalgic to you, don’t miss the movie.
Now I must get busy on January columns for Forest Blade—since they go to press on Wed. I do enjoy this connection with my hometown.
2019–how can that be. I wish to you, my dear readers, Peace, Joy, Love to share and receive, and good reading. Shirley

Thank you Facebook

December 28th, 2018

I learned that Facebook is the best way to get a message out to friends. It seemed to have reached many for I have received messages and 9 hits on website since posting. Makes me very happy. My website is managed by publisher of first three books, and when they changed servers I somehow was lost. I really enjoy the blog so hope no more problem.
_Myra–the Girl–The Woman–the Legend, my latest & ABSOLUTELY LAST was done through another publisher and therefore not listed on website—except when I sneak it in. If you haven’t read and would like to know more about some of Myra’s friends and family in short stories, Greenville’s Fiction Addition or Amazon is where you will find.
Although I have closure on novels, I am still writing a weekly column for my hometown newspaper. I have found that I can’t stop.
These days between Christmas and New Years are for “lulling around” which I am prone to do. Thank you for reading. More to come.

Just trying out

Wed 6/20

June 21st, 2018

Summer time is here. Planned to walk at 8:00 but temp still above 90′—so better to stay inside with AC. Thinking about Myra picking cotton in such heat and wearing long sleeves to protect from briers. She had no choice like you and I. Thankfully by book III, she could sit on her shady porch and with a nice breeze from her fan.

Saw a really good movie this afternoon, “Oceans Eight”It was a remake of a film I saw long ago but main characters were women instead of men.  Sandra Bullock was great as always.

Now to bed with my sweet kitty and a book by Mary Alice Monroe.  She makes me wish to spend the summer on Isle of Palms or my favorite Folly Beach.

Good night, sweet dreams and pleasant reading.

Shirley   PS   Comments are now usable –so would love to hear from you—if you only say “HI”

Can’t stop singing “Love Never Dies” after seeing the amazing performance at Peace Center. If you loved Phantom of the Opera, the finish to this will touch you deeply. Scenery & lighting like magic. How do they transport this large cast and all things needed from city to city. I will try to stop singing but the words are so dear.

Plans are to get back on book club circuit next month. I miss being with readers but a lazy month has been good for me.

Carly, the kitty, still keeps me entertained and provides sweet love.

If you are blessed enough to still have your father, the father of your children or grandchildren, make it a special day and show your love and appreciation. These times do not last forever. I sent in a tribute to my father for my newspaper column—things I wish I had said to him but never did. perhaps he still reads the Swainsboro Forest Blade.
Happy to have you to share my thoughts.
